What is Communication if it is Not Lego? 🧱
When we talk about effective communication, don’t think about boring rules like “look in the eye” or “sit straight.” Let’s change this picture. In my old posts, I said communication is like a masterpiece of engineering, but actually, it is more like a Lego set.
Why? Here are some fun reasons:
Parts Do Not Always Fit: Sometimes you have a great “speaking” piece, but the other person’s “understanding” part is different. Don’t push it! Turn the piece around and try a different way. Communication is finding the right part for the right place.
The Tower Can Fall: You think you are building a great conversation and then—bang! One wrong word (like the famous word “But”) can destroy the whole tower. No problem! The best thing about Lego is that you can build it again with a stronger base.
Don’t Follow the Manual All the Time: Yes, books give you a “user manual” for communication. But sometimes you should put the manual away and be creative. The most sincere connections happen when you are just yourself.
Missing Pieces: Sometimes a piece is missing. This is where “active listening” starts. Finding the missing piece in the other person’s hand and helping them is the highest level of communication.
In short: Communication is like a Lego set. Sometimes colors get mixed, and sometimes we step on the pieces and it hurts. But at the end of the day, the “connection” you build is worth it.
A Little Tip: Playing with your phone while talking to someone is like throwing Lego pieces out of the window. Stay focused on the person in front of you.
